If you want to know about me, my name is... Lori 'Minky' Radcliffe, RN, BS, CFPC, THE Fitness Nurse expert and I was once...
A stand-up comedienne, competitive body builder, and champion dieter (I've tried too many diets to count).
When I work, I serve as a Certified Food Psychology Coach, a Fitness Nurse (I practice working/exercising the body in a natural way), and what I really love...I perform as a Health-Info-tainer and give practical, real information to those folks who are tired of starving themselves and exercising for 6 hours a week, just to tell others what they do. Inside they are miserable fighting the omnivore within. I try to follow the practices of Weston A. Price, DDS and am a former chapter leader; but still a member in the Weston A. Price Foundation. CLICK Presentations for more info.
I consider myself an INDEPENDENT thinker and will give you the 'not your ordinary' health information while being entertained!
Technically, I am a Registered Nurse (R.N.), with a degree in Kinesiological Science (Kinesiology) from the University of Maryland, College Park. I am a proud Adult Care Fitness Nurse. President and CEO of Fitnessnursing.com, a company that assists others nurses who want to start a fitness nursing business and/or work as a Fitness Nurse, CLICK HERE for more information. CLICK HERE for local meetup . I am a NESTA & Stott-Certified Pilates Instructor, a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Kickboxing Instructor and studied as a Lebed Method Dance & Movement Therapy Instructor for Breast Cancer Survivors. Lori 'Minky' is also a National Personal Fitness Trainer Certification Specialist (Trains individuals, through A.F.A.A., to become Nationally Certified Personal Fitness Trainers or Certified PFT's) But of all that technical training shifted because of the events that follow:
September 11th, 2001. 9:30 am, my mother was being ‘released' from the hospital after being there and a few other places, after her heart attack, 7 days earlier. As I was in her room packing her things and thanking the doctors and nurses for caring for my mother; then I heard commotion in the hallways. I turned on the t.v. and there it was... you know..those horrible pictures of tower 1 blazing and smoking like a large chimney stack. My mother was very weak and just wanted to get home. Even though I wanted to stand there and watch, I respected my mother's wishes and with my father's help we hurried along, left the hospital and brought her home. Once we got her home and settled, I immediately turned on the television and in amazement I saw tower 2 was now on fire and smoking just like tower 1. All day long it was pure chaos. I live in NJ, and like many in the tri-state area, I began thinking about who I knew that could be in the city (NYC).
I found out hours after my mom came home, that the hospital where she was a patient, was on a type of ‘lock down'; no new admissions or releases until further notice.
As the day went on and into the night, all I kept seeing was the anguish of all those people looking for their loved ones in the chaos. I remember like it was yesterday when I turned to looked at my mother; she was awake but quiet and gave me a little smile and I said to myself ... "Thank God I have my mother".
Oh how I wish I would have said it to her out load instead of to myself.
Fast forward to November 12, 2007, almost exactly 6 years later. After years of medical treatment, cardiac rehab, and continual exercising, (she absolutely hated exercise, if you'd look up the word "sedentary", my mother's picture would have been there), and taking the meds, getting her liver enzymes checked because of religiously taking statin drugs, watching her sugar & blood pressure, my 130 pound, retired RN, beloved mother and best friend was dead. She dropped dead on a treadmill and as my father went to help her; she took her last breath in his arms.
That's what sent me on my new journey of "What happened?" and to answer the question, "Why did my mother die, trying to live?"
You may not have known my mother. But you probably know newsman Tim Russert and what happened to him. This is what similarily happened to my mother. They both died on Monday, had a prior stressful weekend, were on the treadmill and took similar medications.
Since my mother's untimely death (when is death ever timely?), I have read over 500 articles, studies and books on what really happens to your body when you live in this world. This world of frankenfoods, lack of moving and breath, pills, fear & anxiety, false advertising, contant noise, ungrateful, competitive, jealous, closed-minded people, financial crooks, political correctness, and bad drivers cause you to slowly die from malnutrition.
The death certificate says my mother died from a heart attack; I disagree. My mother died from malnutriton and inflammation. She did everything 'the experts' told her to do; but nobody noticed that she was malnourished. Not even her daughter (me) who has been in the health & fitness industry for over 25 years. My focus was on "fixing her" as quick as possible.
'Fear' clouds your vision and perception of things. "Hindsight is 20/20" is so true. If I knew then; what I know now...I know she would be alive today.
You become malnourished basically because of stress. When your mind & body are constantly on 'alert', you don't eat well, you don't sleep well, you don't shit well. Those 3 things are basic human needs. When they are not met; this brings on even more stress. One of your body's organs finally says,"That's it. I can't do this anymore. I'm done." (sound familiar?)
I've decided to laugh a lot more and be 'in the learn' NOT 'in the know' when it comes to meeting and being with people.
I've learned that you can find any study, report or research to support/justify any position on eating, dieting, exercise, why you should or shouldn't take a pill, etc. An expert is just a person who picked a particular point of view/study that serves them financially or otherwise and finds the research to back their position. They may work for years believing that one way of operating that has worked for them. But it doesn't necesarily work for you.
You can become your own expert of your own body. I want to help. |
